About

Melinda

In 2008 I wrote an eBook “Crawl Out From Under The Paper” explaining how to set up a filing system that takes care of all the paperwork in a home.

In the Fall of 2009 I started a blog on organizing an efficient home because I still had more ideas that weren’t in the book. I love to write, and that is probably because I like to talk.

My father likes to recall our jogging days when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I would talk non-stop through the run, never losing my breath.

So what’s my story?

I am an organization fanatic.

However, I misplaced my skills for a period of about ten years.

Flashback to 15 years ago where the problems began…

The chaos of Motherhood

Babies have a way of turning your world upside down. Unprepared for the life-changing experience and disruption of order in my life, I found myself dealing with this cute little baby who required a house-full of equipment and toys.

Suddenly we were living in Baby World, and the house quickly spiraled into disorder as priorities were shifted. I felt like Lucy with the chocolate coming down the conveyor belt too fast. I couldn’t keep up.

Then add another kid…a dog…and another kid.

Three wonderful kids later, I was overwhelmed and exhausted with the challenges of being a mom, working, and volunteering. I didn’t have any time or energy left for me. I blame this time period for my coffee addiction as I was a tea drinker before this point. I like to have fun, and I wasn’t having any. Instead was just surviving in a fog of constant sleep deprivation.

Tired of needing what I joked as a “48-hour warning” before letting someone in the front door, I knew I had to find a way to get the house under control and regain my time and sanity. Sound familiar? There is hope.

Taking back control of my life

Many of the ideas I share were developed during my three year journey to transform myself from a stressed-out mom drowning in clutter and chaos to a happy mom of three who runs an efficient household. I now have time to enjoy life with my kids.

Everyone has the potential of becoming a home organization pro with some help.

I know the tips and ideas I share work, because I use them in my own home. Despite my lack of photography skills, I like to show pictures of the actual systems I use to demonstrate my point. Maybe one day I will become a better photographer. *Adds that to my to-do list*

I like to occasionally throw a little humor in my posts because laughing is important therapy while attempting to overcome the obstacle of clutter.

When I do have free time, I love reading and playing games with my kids. My four-year-old beats be in everything. I’m also a closet xbox gamer. Oops…the secret is out now. Yes. I’m the mom in line at Gamestop waiting for my own copy of COD Modern Warfare so I can foolishly challenge my fifteen-year-old son. I have been recognized in the line by his friends that I don’t know and told I was a legend at their house. I guess that’s my fifteen minutes of embarrassing fame. Why should the kids have all the fun?

On occasion I’ve been known to get crafty with the kids, and we make something cool. If I had to pick my favorite vacation destination it would be Paris or hanging out at the beach with the kids.

I am also an XHTML/CSS/JS hand coder turned WordPress fanatic who works as an independent website consultant.

I like to find the humor in life and live a great story.
