5 Helpful Tips for Messy Ingredients and Kitchen Hacks

5 Helpful Tips for Messy Ingredients and Kitchen Hacks

In the world of cooking, dealing with sticky ingredients can sometimes be a challenge. However, fear not! In this blog post, we'll explore some handy kitchen tools and techniques that will make measuring, extracting, and handling messy ingredients a breeze. Whether you're struggling with honey, mayo, peanut butter, sour cream, tomato paste, corn, or even lettuce, we've got you covered. So let's dive in and discover these helpful tips!

1. The Adjustable Measuring Cup:

One kitchen tool that I absolutely adore is the adjustable measuring cup. This nifty gadget is a game-changer when it comes to accurately adding sticky ingredients to your recipes. Simply slide the two pieces apart to adjust it to the precise measurement you desire, and then fill it up. To release the contents, hold the cup over your mixing bowl and give it a gentle push. No more messy scraping to get every last bit out! And the best part? A quick swipe of a spatula is all it takes to finish up. Cleaning is a breeze as the two pieces separate effortlessly.

2. Extracting Tomato Paste with Ease:

Dealing with tomato paste, refried beans, and other thick canned goods can be a sticky situation. But fear not! Here's a tip inspired by the adjustable measuring cup. Open both ends of the can, and then push the lid through on one side, effectively pushing the entire contents out. This plunging technique ensures you extract every bit of the sticky substance without any hassle.

3. Corn without any silk left

Here's a solution that'll make your corn-eating experience much more enjoyable. Instead of struggling with individual strands, consider purchasing corn still in the husk. It tends to be more cost-effective, and with a little know-how, you'll have no excuse not to indulge in a few delicious ears of corn.

4. Easy Tomato Peeling:

When a recipe calls for peeled tomatoes, many opt for the convenience of canned versions. However, once you discover this easy trick, you'll be more inclined to choose fresh tomatoes.

Follow these steps:
- place two cups of boiling water in a container
- add the tomatoes
- heat on high for one minute.
- Then, plunge the tomatoes into cold water.

Voila! The skin will peel off effortlessly, leaving you with perfectly peeled tomatoes for your culinary creations.

5. Keeping Lettuce Fresh:

There's nothing appetizing about wilted lettuce, but worry not! Hitchcockfarms.com  offers some fantastic alternatives to keep your lettuce fresher for longer.

One easy method is to wrap your lettuce in paper towels before placing it in the crisper. This helps to absorb excess moisture and prevent wilting, ensuring your lettuce stays crisp and delicious for an extended period.

well, to clean the kitchen i use vinegar + water and lemons. It’s cheaper, healthier and it leaves behind a nice smell.

I love kitchen gadgets. The tomato peeling tip is one I shall use. I’ve got a tip for you and your readers:

Garlic is terrible when it comes to getting rid of the smell off your fingers. I’ve had to go out sometimes after cooking, only to find that I still had garlic smell on my fingers (after washing my hands several times). The best way to get that garlic smell off your fingers is to rub them with a stainless steel spoon while washing them. Works like a charm!
