No, I’m not talking about your significant other..I am talking about the lost matches to socks building up in the laundry room. Now before you say..”Whoa there..I do not want to invite thirty kids over to make a sock puppet theater!”, that isn’t where I am heading with this.
Ok, ok…you can use a few for a sock puppet project if you wish; however, socks make excellent rags. My mother “claims” she is never missing a match, yet I seem to collect about 15 to 20 over a few months.
Every few months when you are sure the match just isn’t going to show up, move them to the rag bag. Cut a slit at the top so you know that sock is now a rag when you wash them.
Which brings us back to the missing partner. His fate is now sealed, and he will become a rag…if he ever shows up.
Just wanted to say I love your web site and found some very useful tips. Can’t wait to buy the book!!!
Snipping out a portion to tag the rag is a good idea. I have several other uses for old and unpaired socks too at http://globalrecycledproducts.com/2008/03/31/what-you-can-do-with-old-or-unpaired-socks/
Hi there C5, you’ve got some pretty helpful tips as well on your site. Thanks for sharing. I’m going to look it up every now and then.
This is a great idea for recycling socks! I swear there is some sort of sock eating monster that lives in my dryer because i seem too loose socks all the time! So what i end up doing is actually just paring up the old socks that are the closest match.
We also get that here at home. I get around 5-8 socks though and never finding their exact partnet. This is a pretty cool tip not unless I will require everyone to wear them even if they do not match. But yeah we can definitely use them as rags and recycle them. For an OC like me, your site really hits the top ranks on my page.
